Meet the “Tree-o”

A musical theater performer, a banjo picker and a middle school music teacher walk into a bar…

Sequoia South is a new powerhouse trio born and based out of Nashville, TN, featuring Lockwood Barr, Leigh Cara, and Bryan Lane.  In under a year as a band, they have made their national TV debut on the Huckabee Show, sold out the Bluebird Cafe and headlined Sumner Fest in Tennessee.  Barr, Cara and Lane met on the songwriting scene in Nashville and quickly set up a write after admiring each others’ work.  By the end of that first co-writing session, they knew they had struck gold.  Within their vastly different vocal and instrumental stylings, they quickly realized their common denominator was their passion for harmonies.

Stunned by how easily their voices blended, they not only set up another co-write, but a band meeting.  Sequoia South’s music is an amalgamation of rootsy instrumentation, country songwriting, and pop melodies.  Most notably, their crisp and complex harmonies are so distinctive that they act as a fourth member of the band.  Their name pays homage to their upbringings, with Leigh and Lockwood raised among the Sequoia Trees in California, and Bryan raised in the South as a Nashville native.  A live show with Sequoia South is an experience, showcasing the organic chemistry between band members and offering the audience an energetic setlist.  All three members bring completely different voices and vibes: Lockwood with her smoky rocker voice and Scruggs banjo picking, Leigh with her powerhouse multi-octave range and rhythmic guitar playing, and Bryan with his buttery smooth vocals and killer piano chops.  Their ability to blend vocally is where their magic lies.
